JOB READINESS AT KITSO
Finding a job in South Africa is hard and it is made even harder for matriculants by the fact that there aren't any set actions you can take to guarantee that you will get that first job. This is where we come in, we help our matriculants identify opportunities and jobs that they can apply to with their skills, certifications and education levels. We also work with our mentors to help our matriculants prepare for interviews and in some cases we will even provide transportation to interviews that are too far for our matriculants to attend by themselves.
South Africa does not produce enough jobs to meet demand, if anything every year the unemployment rate goes higher as more people enter the workforce. This is not the end though, knowing where and how to look for jobs and which ones to apply to is still important to ensure some level of success in a matriculants job search, unfortunately for many this remains a big obstacle. We see this with college and university graduates as well. If individuals who have received certifications and experiences that should help narrow down their options during their job search are unable to choose jobs to apply to, imagine how hard it is for a matriculant.
Kitso helps matriculants identify their place in the job market and succeed in their applications and interviews. After getting the job then the challenge becomes keeping it, there are many young people who make it through the application phase but then are unable to do the job and end up loosing their jobs anyway. This is why we have all our students put the skills they learn to use through working opportunities available throughout the program, this allows the to develop an understanding of what work looks like in general .
How do we prepare matriculants for their job search and employment
You can use knowledge gained from our program for the rest of your life. Here are actionable steps we take to make sure that our students succeed in their job search.
Certifications
Certificates gives you proof that you have recived training for the skills you tell your future employers you have. All our short courses are accompanied by certificates of completion which can be used to apply.
Job Applications
We run our own job board for entry level jobs in communities across the country making it easier for us to share relevant opportunities with our matriculants. We will obviously also introduce our matriculants to all the other ways that one can apply to jobs and provide career coaching where required.
Interview Preparation
Interviewing well can be the difference between not getting a job and being given an opportunity, we help our students prepare for future interviews through our mock interviews and guidance from recruiters across different industries in South Africa.
Job Experience
During the program you will get an opportunity to get some Job experience from our own projects, volunteering and short term employment with our partnering companies and organisations.
Workplace skills
Throughout our courses and work opportunities you will develop and refine both your soft skills and hard skills. If you do not know what to expect at a work environment or what is expected of you, this is where you will learn that.
