MENTORSHIP AT KITSO

Mentors are important for the development of young people especially in a country like South Africa where most people live in environments without many role models, our teachers are basically the closest thing to working adults that matriculants get to see. This shows how bad our unemployment problem is and highlights the need to bring mentors closer to the youth so that they can come across people who work in places and industries that many may choose to pursue as careers.

In a country where only 39.6% of the working age population actually has a job. we want to help put our matriculants on a path where they will become tomorrows professionals. We believe in the "see it, be it" theory when it comes to reducing unemployment amongst South Africa's youth. If you see a businesswomen you are more likely to decide to be one yourself, if you see someone who runs a catering business, who works in construction, mining, office administration the more likely you are to look at those as possible career choices yourself. Just because you have decided that you want to be some thing does not mean that the world will just let you be that, the process of reaching this goals is part of what we help with.

Most matriculants still have not decided what they want to do going forward, add the fact that we have an unemployment crisis in south Africa and you end up with a mountain of obstacles that many cannot overcome straight out of grade 12. This period of paralysis is what ultimately leads many matriculants into resigning themselves to their situation. Every matriculant recognises that they need to do something about their unemployment and start building their own life but they do not know where to begin which makes it hard, we believe that our FREE gap year program will address this problem.

How do we provide mentorship and guidance to matriculants.

Matriculants have different goals, some want to prioritise generating income by any means necessary, others want to study furtherwhilst some want to start building their careers right away. We work with multiple mentors to provide value to all our matriculants regardless of their chosen path.
